Dark sky
Inspiration comes from the least expected source. A collection on uncoordinated dreams.
I saw her on porch waiting for someone. A pretty face with joy masking a tint of sadness ...
Grass was green , covered with dew. Birds were chirping and you could hear in background kidding laughing and playing. You could see a sun ready to sleep, and a moon ready to jump into the sky. And the roads started to look dark when patch of cloud conquering the sky ,as if it knew of the imminent pain that was to follow soon.
She was sitting on porch, wearing a sky blue crumpled top with a cream colored skirt which cut of a little below her keen matched by a pair of exquisite sandals. She was looking up time every few minutes in hope that she could travel back through time and freeze time.
And she caught my eyes. I was standing on road, fearing the light i could see flowing away from her porch o capture people's heart. I could hear her thoughts whistling away among wind, padding from one breeze o another till her thoughts hit me.
With every thought that hit me, i wanted t break my shackles that were keeping me tied down. And used my last bit of strength to drag myself to a tree, standing right besides her and onlooking at her life.
She lifted her head, and smiled at me. I could feel a air of freedom. Felt powerful and felt right. I wanted to take a step further, and to realize chains are only so long to allow the illusion of freedom. She stood up, to take her first step towards me. I wanted to ask her help for freedom, and yet i was scared, if she could run away with fear when she saw the ugly sight that held me. I knew a matter of time, and not if that she would see.
I could feel her warmth next to me, and a smile that could melt away a glacier. I could see her eyes, intense and painful. Her voice attractive and of a sea nymph.
And then, i realized a strong tug pulling me back to a dark road and fear in her eyes. The sky started pour out of pain, and i could see her drenched and her tears whipped away among the rain drops. Her skin glistening with water, reminded me of Goddess "Venus".
Darkness fell over, and i could see her or anything anymore. I stand where i was, awaiting he morning accompanied by rain and my shackles trying to pull me back.

Love is an interesting word. People define it as magic and as a precious jewel. Often makes me wonder what is the end to love.
Falling in love is all about flow of adrenaline which excites us, and various other hormones which bonds us, and in the end keeps us together even when distance parts us. and these hormones, really screw up your sense of logic. Then again, humans were never ever logical creature.

Business is Buniness!!
One day many years ago at a school in South London a teacher
said to the class of 5-year-olds, "I'll give $20 to the child who can tell
me who was the most famous man who ever lived."
An Irish boy put his hand up and said, "It was St. Patrick." The
teacher said, "Sorry Alan, that's not correct."
Then a Scottish boy put his hand up and said, "It was St.
Andrew." The teacher replied, "I'm sorry, Hamish, that's not right either.
Finally, a Gujarati boy raised his hand and said, "It was Jesus
Christ." The teacher said, "That's absolutely right, Jayant, come up here
and I'll give you the $20."
As the teacher was giving Jayant his money, she said, "You know
Jayant, since you are Gujarati, I was very surprised you said Jesus Christ."
Jayant replied, "Yes, in my heart I knew it was Lord Krishna, but business
is business!"

1995 - Levis
What an uncharacteristic Levis ad, what with the bird-pooping, nose-picking, and toilet-sitting. It's all made better by the stop-motion animation, and the song "Mister Boombastic" by Shaggy. |

Best and Worst of the Web - Religious Advice & Best Fan Letter

Religious Advice & Best Fan Letter
Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:
Jim

Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted fan,
Jim

The Belly of the Indian Woman
The Belly of the Indian Woman:
Sometimes non-Indians wonder about the traditional costume of the Indian woman, the short blouse she wears under her sari that exposes her middle. Why is her bare belly revealed? Lest this custom be misunderstood, I would like to point out that it is not for any sexy allure, but in honor of the fertility of her womb that bears children."

Religion and Freedom of Speech
'Blasphemy must be forbidden because it is against God'
Where is God? Is he real? Can you show me your God? Can you show me any evidence of your God? No, you cannot, and so this argument is meaningless to those who are not believers in your God.
'Blasphemy must be forbidden because it is against religion'
So you want to protect religion. Which religions will you protect? Do you want religious discrimination? If not, you must protect them all, both large and small.
Do you know how many religions there are? Do you know what strange beliefs they hold? Do you remember the people who thought that there was a UFO behind the comet? That was their religion!
So if you protect all religions against blasphemy, you will have to censor many, many truths - including the NASA information about the comet!
This situation is impossible because anybody can create a new religion at any time, and ask for new censorship. But if you refuse to listen to them, you would have religious discrimination.
'Blasphemy must be forbidden, when it offends many people'
Many religions are offensive to each other. For example, Islam says that Christ was a man, but Christianity"

US Human Right Record : Maher Arar
Maher's Story in Brief
Maher Arar is a 34-year-old wireless technology consultant. Arar was born in Syria and at the age of 17, came to Canada with his family. He became a Canadian citizen in 1991 and in 1997 moved to Ottawa.
In September 2002, Arar was in Tunisia, vacationing with his wife Monia Mazigh and their two small children. On Sept. 26 while in transit in New York’s JFK airport, he was detained by US officials and interrogated about alleged links to al-Qaeda. Twelve days later, he was chained, shackled and flown to Jordan aboard a private plane and from there transferred to a Syrian prison.
In Syria, he was held in a tiny “grave-like” cell for ten months and ten days before he was moved to a better cell in a different prison. He was beaten, tortured and forced to make a false confession.
During his imprisonment, Monia campaigned relentlessly on his behalf. After many representations from Canadian Human Rights organizations and a growing number of citizens, the Government of Canada, on Jan. 28, 2004, announced a Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar.

Hindu Customs in the Muslim Community in India
Hindu Customs in the Muslim Community in India:
"The varying opinions that Indians hold on an issue like cultural identity is highlighted when we talk of our country's ancient past before religions like Islam and Christianity were introduced into India or rather before these religions came into being in the country of their birth. A Muslim or a Christian would be indifferent if not hostile to India's past before his religion came on the scene.
The history and heritage of a nation belongs to all its inhabitants because their forefathers had made it. Subsequent conversion of some of the inhabitants to a religion originating in another country need not deprive them of this heritage. Had this been so, the Greeks after their conversion to Christianity should have disowned the Acropolis, the Olympia and looked with contempt and hatred on Athena, Zeus or Herakles who were deities of the ancient Greek religion and are still fresh in the memory of the Greeks."

Much Apu About Nothing:
Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Ph.D. (sometimes spelled Nahasapeemapetilan) is a fictional character featured in The Simpsons television series. He is the proprietor of the Kwik-E-Mart (a subsidiary of Nordyne Defense Dynamics), the local convenience store. He is an immigrant from India, and, like most Simpsons characters, is a caricature of a common stereotype—that of the South Asian convenience store owner. His most defining characteristics are his exaggerated Indian English, his devotion to the Hindu god Ganesha, and his indefatigable immigrant work-ethic. His catchphrase is "Thank you, come again!"—cheerfully and dutifully repeated to customers after each transaction (no matter how unpleasant). His first name is an homage to the main character in the "Apu Trilogy" directed by Satyajit Ray. His surname, Nahasapeemapetilon, is a spoonerism of the name Pahasaneemapetilon, which was the surname of a school mate of Simpsons writer Mike Reiss.

Evolution: Sex: Is Love in Our DNA?
Evolution: Sex: Is Love in Our DNA?: "
Consider this...
Beautiful young women are sexually attractive to men because beauty and youth are closely linked with fertility and reproductive value. In evolutionary history, males who were able to identify and mate with fertile females had the greatest reproductive success ... A 14-year-old woman has a higher reproductive value than a 24-year-old woman, because her future contribution to the gene pool is higher on average.
--David Buss, 'The Strategies of Human Mating,' American Scientist, 1994
To a primatologist, such preferences must be puzzling. There is not a shred of evidence for any other primate that youth ... or specific body ratios considered indicative of reproductive value -- all commonly cited indices of a woman's 'desirability' ... affect male willingness to mate ... Across virtually all"

Evolution: Sex: The Advantage of Sex:
"The Red Queen hypothesis for sex is simple: Sex is needed to fight disease. Diseases specialize in breaking into cells, either to eat them, as fungi and bacteria do, or, like viruses, to subvert their genetic machinery for the purpose of making new viruses. To do that they use protein molecules that bind to other molecules on cell surfaces. The arms races between parasites and their hosts are all about these binding proteins. Parasites invent new keys; hosts change the locks. For if one lock is common in one generation, the key that fits it will spread like wildfire. So you can be sure that it is the very lock not to have a few generations later. According to the Red Queen hypothesis, sexual reproduction persists because it enables host species to evolve new genetic defenses against parasites that attempt to live off them."

All about Linux: Make your files immutable which even root can't delete
All about Linux: Make your files immutable which even root can't delete:
Here is a cool tip on how you can make files on your system immutable. By immutable, I mean even root can't delete the files if he choose to. Linux ships with a tool called chattr which can be used for the purpose. 'chattr' is similar to the 'attrib' DOS equivalent tool but much more powerful and flexible.
To make your file (test_file) immutable# chattr +i test_file
... You can only do it logged in as root. Here the +i option sets the immutable bit for the file. Once this bit is set, even root can't delete or tamper with the file.
If you want to unset the immutable flag, just run the following command:
# chattr -i test_file
You can check what are the attributes of a file by using the following command:
# lsattr test_file
----i-------- test_file
If the immutable flag is set, there will be an 'i' in the listing. This command is used by system administrators to restrict the users from changing a file in a particular way or even the administrator can by mistake delete a critical file because of a mis-typed command. But if the immutable flag is set, these mistakes can be avoided.
chattr can be used to set/unset many more file attributes. Like if you want to allow everybody to just append data to a file and not change already entered data, you can set the append bit as follows:
# chattr +a test_file
Now the test_file can only be opened in append mode for writing data. You can unset the append attribute as follows:
# chattr -a test_file
To know more about this very useful tool in the system administrator's forte, check the man page for chattr.

What is AVERT?
AVERT is an international HIV and AIDS charity based in the UK, with the aim of AVERTing HIV and AIDS worldwide.
AVERT has a number of overseas projects, helping with the problem of HIV/AIDS in countries where there is a particularly high rate of infection, such as South Africa, or where there is a rapidly increasing rate of infection such as in India.
And through our highly successful web site, www.avert.org, we take education and information to people in almost every country in the world.
But there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS, and many millions of people around the world are dying each year. More effective treatment is needed, and so AVERT continues with HIV/AIDS medical research to contribute to this."

Atheism in Hinduism
Atheism in Hinduism:
"DOES HINDUSIM ALLOW ATHEISM ?
Sujoi Karampuri
There are many religions in the world and they usually have a propounder i.e. a person who has started the religion like, Prophet (Islam), Christ (Christianity), Guru Nanak (Sikhism) and many more like Jain, Zarasusthra. But Hinduism does not come into this class as it has no propounder. It has come into existence through time suiting the lives of the people of the land.
And many of these religions have been founded on few steadfast rules. ONE who obeys them shall be a part of that relgion. You need to abide by few rules to be it's follower. IF you go against it you are thrown out. One of the steadfast rules in most of the above relgions says that you should definitely believe in a particular person, idol or an icon to be it's follower. It has few axioms. Hence are not debatable."

DHTML WindowMaker Sim
DHTML WindowMaker Sim
This is terribly out of date. Nearly all of the links are old and broken. My contact information (icq & efnet nick) no longer apply. The JavaScript is from an era when document-based events (as opposed to layer-based events) were what you had to work with.
WindowMaker has come a long way since the time this sim was written (a few years ago). Are you old-sk00l enough to remember those green workspace buttons on the clip? (It was so long ago that there was still controversy over whether to call it the fiend or the clip!) One day, my long-promised rewrite will become a reality. But don't hold your breath... it's going to be a while.
By the way... this may be viewed ONLY with Netscape Navigator version 4.x. Not IE, not Mozilla. Not Netscape 6. Certainly not Opera, NetPositive, or Konqueror.
The page might take a while to load. Don't click anything until it's finished loading!

Star Trek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Star Trek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
"Star Trek collectively refers to six science-fiction television series spanning 726 episodes and ten motion pictures in addition to hundreds of novels, video games, and other works of fiction all set within the same fictional universe created by Gene Roddenberry in the mid-1960s.
It depicts an optimistic, almost utopian future in which humanity has overcome sickness, racism, poverty, intolerance, and warfare on Earth, and has united with other intelligent species in the galaxy; the central characters explore the galaxy, discovering new worlds and encountering new civilizations, while helping to promote peace and understanding.
'Star Trek' (or sometimes merely 'Trek') is one of the most popular names in the history of science fiction entertainment, and one of the most popular franchises in television history."

Positronic brain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Positronic brain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
"A positronic brain is a fictional technological device, originally conceived by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. Its role is to serve as a central computer for a robot, and, in some unspecified way, to provide it with a form of consciousness recognisable to humans. When Asimov wrote his first robot stories in 1939/1940, the positron was a newly discovered particle and so the buzz word positronic, coined by analogy with electronic, added a contemporary gloss of popular science to the concept."

Spontaneous Human Combustion
Spontaneous Human Combustion
Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) is the alleged burning of a person's body without a readily apparent, identifiable external source of ignition. The combustion may result in simple burns and blisters to the skin, smoking, or a complete incineration of the body. The latter is the form most often 'recognized' as SHC. There is much speculation and controversy over SHC. It is not a proven natural occurrence, but many theories have attempted to explain SHC's existence and how it may occur. The two most common explanations offered to account for apparent SHC are the non-spontaneous 'wick effect' fire, and the rare discharge called static flash fires. Although mathematically it can be shown that the human body contains enough energy stored in the form of fat and other tissues to consume it completely, in normal circumstances bodies will not sustain a flame on their own."

"The Three Laws of Robotics"
The movie faithfully quotes Asimov's three laws of robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law."
